Our team, regardless of the 5 pilots (sectors) it has initially targeted, wishes to be in contact with men and women involved in all branches of Handicrafts. The actions we plan are aimed at everyone, including the artisans of Crete.
Once we have completed the mapping and surveys for the selected industries, we wish to incorporate additional industries from the spectrum of Handicrafts in Crete. As an example, we briefly mention other arts found on the island:
- Sculpture
- Jewelry
- Bell making
- Marble sculpture
- Cutlery
- Metalworking
- Wood carving
- Mosaic
- Blown glass
If the Project is expanded, we will be able to record and study the raw materials used by the artisans as well as the processing and creation processes of each object. Then, to investigate the promotion of the products and their entry into the market with the distribution networks. At the same time, to collect folkloric and ethno-anthropological data on these arts that constitute an important part of the cultural identity of our country.
The purpose of our group is to map the craft activity at all stages, the difficulties and needs of each branch, the strong and weak points and the prospects for development in order to design interventions that benefit the artisans of the island.
