Our team comes into contact with people who know the art of making Cretan musical instruments such as lyre, lute, mandolin, ascobandura, habioli, thubi etc.
We record and study the raw materials used by artisans as well as the processing and creation processes of each musical instrument. Then we investigate the promotion of the products and their entry into the market with the distribution networks. At the same time, we gather folkloric and ethno-anthropological data on this art which constitutes an important chapter of the cultural identity of our country.
Our purpose is to map the craft activity of Cretan musical instrument making at all stages, the difficulties and needs of the sector, the strong and weak points and the prospects for development in order to plan interventions that benefit the musical instrument makers of the island.
Recordings are ongoing, data will be released in the last quarter of 2023.
